Dental Months at Mosman Vet

You are here: Home / News / Dental Months at Mosman Vet

At Mosman Vet, we are passionate about dental health for pets. Our aim is to raise awareness and promote prevention at home for dogs and cats so they can continue to live happy, healthy lives.

An initiative of the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA), the aim of the dental campaign is to educate pet owners about the benefits of annual dental health checks and the importance of a thorough dental examination to help prevent gum disease.

Dental Months at Mosman Vet 1

80% of dogs and cats over the age of three have periodontal disease.

Is your pet one of them?

So, how can you tell if your dog or cat is in the early stages of dental disease?

Gums may be red and inflamed and the teeth stained with tartar, or your pet may start dropping food. However, it’s in the best interests of your pet to have them examined and treated for dental disease while they are under anaesthetic. This ensures they experience no pain and are not placed under unnecessary stress. It also means that owners get the best value from their pet’s oral health exam because it is thorough and investigates everything above and below the gum line. At home, we also recommend regular tooth brushing, or forms of prevention to delay the time between dental treatments under anaesthetic.

Bad breath is a very common issue, but dental disease can be a serious health problem for our pets. If left untreated, the bacteria in tartar can cause infections in the gums, tooth loss, and in extreme cases they can enter the bloodstream and cause infections in other areas of the body such as the heart or kidneys.

At your pets free dental check-up, our nurse will examine all of your pets teeth and gums, and they will offer advice on the best dental care options.  This may include a dental scale and polish in hospital, and aftercare options you can use at home as a preventative for plaque build-up. If only mild tartar is present, preventative measures may be all that is required to keep your pets teeth healthy. This can include tooth brushing, Hills T/D dental care diet, Oravet chews, or water additives.

Until the end of September 2020, take advantage of the following promotions at Mosman Vet:

  • Free Nurse Dental Check-ups
  • Free Dental X-Rays AND a Free Dental Kit (valued at a total of $100) with every dental procedure
  • Flat rate of $20 for all small bags of Hill’s T/D
  • $20 discounts off Hill’s T/D large bags
